The Union Home Minister laid the foundation for the new Pradakshina Marg and conservation work of the Parivar Devata Mandirs at the famous Ambabai Mahalaxmi temple in Kolhapur.

The project follows the guiding philosophy of Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi, which blends modern pilgrimage infrastructure with heritage preservation.
It focuses on the renovation and corridor development of the historic Shri Ambabai Mahalaxmi Temple with an estimated cost of around ₹1,500 crore.
Special attention goes toward protecting the historical and cultural roots of the shrine by conserving 41 smaller temples in talks with archaeological experts.

The development plan includes a new Darshan Mandap, Annachhatra, and a multi-purpose hall for visitors.
It offers cultural and technological additions like heritage galleries, a light-and-sound show, AI-based security systems, and LED lighting.
Devotees will also benefit from better parking options and proper first-aid services within the complex.

The initiative seeks to turn Kolhapur into a prominent spiritual tourism hub for travelers.
It aims to make the overall devotee experience smoother while creating jobs and growing the local economy through tourism.

Situated in the holy Karveer region, the shrine stands as one of India’s revered Shakti Peethas and a long-standing centre of devotion.
The main deity is Goddess Lakshmi, who is locally known as Ambabai and worshipped as the giver of wealth.
The structure features the traditional Hemadpanti architectural style and holds a black stone idol of Goddess Lakshmi decorated with precious gems.
The wider temple complex features separate shrines for Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha, and other divine figures.
