- PM-KISAN is a Central Sector Scheme launched in 2019 to give assured income support to landholding farmer families who own cultivable land.
- The Union Budget 2026-27 set aside ₹60,000 crore for PM-KISAN to keep supporting farmers.
- More than ₹4.46 lakh crore has been given out across 23 instalments, making this one of the biggest DBT efforts in the world where over 23% of beneficiaries are women.
- Under the scheme, each eligible farmer family gets ₹6,000 every year in three equal parts of ₹2,000 each.
- The money goes directly into Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) method.
- The scheme aims to increase farmers' income, help buy seeds and fertilizers, better crop health, and stop farmers from depending on local lenders.
- State Governments identify eligible farmer households and keep records of names, ages, categories, Aadhaar numbers, bank accounts, and phone numbers.
- The scheme is monitored through a multi-tier framework at national, State, and district levels, and the national review is led by the Cabinet Secretary.
- The PM-KISAN portal and mobile app help with registration, checking details, tracking money transfers, and doing e-KYC to make things easier.
- Village-level lists of beneficiaries are shown publicly to promote transparency, prevent duplication, and let left-out farmers apply through grievance systems.
- PM-KISAN is now more than just money support because it acts as a farmer-centric empowerment initiative that improves cash flow and helps farmers take better risks.
