The Department of School Education & Literacy has released the latest performance report for the Performance Grading Index 2.0. This report covers state-level data in PGI-S and district-level data in PGI-D for the 2025-26 academic year.

The Performance Grading Index 2.0 is an advanced analytical framework that evaluates school education performance across Indian states and districts using verified data.
Instead of creating competitive rankings that pit states against each other, this framework groups units into performance bands to promote shared learning and targeted growth.
The Ministry of Education first launched this assessment framework in 2018 using data from the 2017-18 academic session.
The main objective of this index is to deliver a complete and balanced overview of school education performance across the country.

The PGI-S tool measures policy frameworks and the broader educational environment across all 36 States and Union Territories using a 1,000-point matrix.
The PGI-D tool measures ground-level execution and administrative performance across 784 districts using a custom 600-point matrix.

The state-level PGI-S tracks 70 indicators across two main categories, which are further divided into six operational domains including learning outcomes, infrastructure, equity, governance, access, and teacher training.
The district-level PGI-D monitors 70 localized indicators across six categories such as classroom teaching, digital learning, student entitlements, child safety, infrastructure, and governance.
PGI 2.0 places administrative units into distinct percentage-based bands rather than assigning ranks.
Units scoring above 90% reach the top grade called Utkarsh, while scores between 61% to 90% fall under Uttam.
Scores between 31% to 60% fall under Prachesta, and units scoring under 40% receive the base tier grade called Akanshi.
The evaluation system operates automatically without manual reporting errors by sourcing data directly from central portals like UDISE+, PARAKH Rashtriya Sarvekshan 2024, PM POSHAN Portal, and PRABANDH.
