India Unveils Its First Domestically Made EXIM Shipping Container

India recently unveiled its first domestically produced export-import shipping container for international logistics company **A.P. Moller-Maersk** at the **Maersk-CONCOR Inland Container Depot** located in **Dadri, Uttar Pradesh**.

This effort focuses on manufacturing world-class shipping containers within India, directly driving the goals of **Atmanirbhar Bharat**, **Make in India**, and the **Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047**.
The new container meets strict global safety and quality rules set by the **International Organization for Standardization (ISO)** and the **International Convention for Safe Containers (CSC)**.

The government supports this initiative through the proposed **₹10,000-crore** **Container Manufacturing Promotion Scheme (CMPS)** announced in the **Union Budget 2026**, providing funds for capital expenditure, daily operations, and research.
The scheme aims to boost India's annual container production ten times, reaching around **7.5 lakh Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs)**.
Increasing domestic output will cut down reliance on foreign imports, strengthen supply chains, and generate new jobs while transferring advanced technical skills to local workers.

This project aligns with legislative reforms in the maritime domain, including the **Merchant Shipping Act, 2025**, the **Coastal Shipping Act, 2025**, and the **Indian Ports Act, 2025**.
India is also introducing digital portals like **One Nation One Port Process**, **Maritime Single Window**, and **e-Samudra**, while investing heavily in ports, shipbuilding, and container terminals.
