An Indian Air Force contingent has arrived in Australia to participate in **Exercise Pitch Black 2026**.

**Exercise Pitch Black** is a massive biennial air warfare exercise that focuses on advanced multinational combat training.
It stands as one of the largest joint air defense and attack simulation drills in the Indo-Pacific region.
The **Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF)** hosts and organizes this major military exercise.
The 2026 edition brings together active military forces and defense personnel from **20 nations**.
Key participants deploying aircraft include India, the US, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, France, Germany, Spain, South Korea, Thailand, the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, and Australia, while the UK, Canada, and New Zealand send embedded staff.

The three-week operational phase runs from **July 20 to August 7, 2026**, concluding an intense training schedule in northern Australia.
Over **2,500 military personnel** and up to **100 fighter and support aircraft** participate in complex combat drills.
Planes carry out flight operations simultaneously from three main RAAF airbases: **Darwin, Tindal, and Amberley**.
The 2026 exercise marks the first participation of Japan's **F-35 Lightning II** stealth fighters and Indonesia's **T-50I Golden Eagle** jets.
