Government officials and technology leaders from Estonia want to build closer partnerships with India in important fields like defence, cybersecurity, trade, and artificial intelligence (AI).

India first recognized Estonia in 1921 when Estonia became a member of the League of Nations.
After the breakdown of the Soviet Union, India recognized the independent Republic of Estonia again in September 1991.
Both countries held the first India-Estonia Cyber Dialogue in 2024 to combine Estonia's top-tier digital governance with India's massive Digital Public Infrastructure.
Bilateral trade between India and Estonia reached 139.3 million euros in goods and 66.4 million euros in services during 2025.
Between 2000 and 2025, cumulative Indian FDI in Estonia touched 13.6 million euros, while Estonian FDI in India stood at 4.15 million euros by December 2025.

Estonia sits in northeastern Europe and serves as the northernmost nation among the three Baltic states, alongside Latvia and Lithuania.
It shares land boundaries with Russia in the east and Latvia in the south.
The Gulf of Finland lies to the north, the Baltic Sea to the west, and Lake Peipus to the east, alongside maritime boundaries with Finland and Sweden.

Estonia contains roughly 1,500 islands and islets, with Saaremaa and Hiiumaa serving as its two biggest islands off the western coast.
The highest geographical elevation in the nation is Suur Munamägi at 318m, while major river systems include the Narva, Pärnu, Pedja, and Kasari.
The capital city is Tallinn, and the country operates under a parliamentary republic system.

Following centuries of foreign rule, Estonia gained its first taste of freedom in 1918, before the USSR forcibly absorbed the country in 1940.
The nation regained full sovereignty in 1991 when the Soviet Union collapsed.
Estonia is currently a member of major Western organizations, including the European Union, the Eurozone, North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8).
