**Manasbal Lake** in **Jammu and Kashmir** is undergoing a major ecological recovery, which is clear from the return of many migratory bird species after focused habitat restoration and water management.

Located in the **Ganderbal district** of **Jammu & Kashmir**, **Manasbal Lake** is an alkaline, spring-fed body of water. It is **India's deepest freshwater lake** at around **13 m** depth and is famous as the **"Supreme Gem of Kashmir Lakes"** for its lotus blooms and aquatic life.
Rain and snow precipitation, underground springs, and surface water runoff nourish this water body, making it a highly productive natural ecosystem.

The wetland provides a natural habitat for **more than 46 species of birds** from **23 families**, including **Mallards**, **White-Headed Ducks**, **Eurasian Hoopoes**, **Horned Grebes**, and **Long-Eared Owls**, whose return confirms cleaner water.

To clear clogged areas and boost ecological health, the **Wullar-Manasbal Development Authority (WMDA)** started targeted dredging operations and removed extra aquatic weeds to clean the water flow.

The **J&K Water Resources Regulatory Authority** will execute a detailed water budgeting plan to check the lake's total capacity, present water usage, and available water surplus.
Authorities installed automated gates and water level gauge meters to maintain balanced ecological water levels throughout the year.

Cleanliness plans combine a **Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP)** with an integrated solid waste facility, while trash guards at the **Lar irrigation canal** stop dirty water and garbage from entering the lake.

Public participation is encouraged through events like **World Wetland Day** and bird watching festivals, along with a move toward eco-friendly tourism that protects the delicate wetland.

**Wular Lake** is **Asia's 2nd largest freshwater lake** and a recognized **Ramsar Site** that helps control seasonal floods and supports local fishing.
**Dal Lake** is a famous urban water body known for its houseboats, traditional shikaras, and surrounding **Mughal gardens**, while **Manasbal Lake** remains **India's deepest freshwater lake** praised for its biodiversity restoration.
The **Surinsar-Mansar Lakes** hold official **Ramsar Site** status as important freshwater bodies valued for their rich environment, natural charm, and cultural heritage.
