India's Position and Principles
- India advocated for a human-centric, inclusive, safe, secure, and trustworthy global AI framework that maintains meaningful human oversight over technological advancements.
- India argued that responsible AI governance must protect human rights, prevent misuse and discrimination, and ensure human authority remains final in crucial areas like healthcare, policing, and justice.
Global South and Capacity Gaps
- India emphasized that developing countries must receive technological, financial, and institutional support to join global AI rule-making and share equitably in AI-driven growth.
India's Domestic Approach
- India's **National Strategy for AI** and **National AI Governance Guidelines** operate on the **"AI for All"** principle, focusing on inclusive growth and innovation without imposing excessive rules that choke technical progress.
Challenges
- The dialogue highlighted serious risks including **deepfakes**, **sexual abuse**, threats to children, autonomous weapons, deceptive AI systems, high environmental costs, unequal tech access, and wider gaps in national security and sovereignty.
Way Forward
- India and the UN urged all nations to establish consensus-based multilateral governance, standardized safety testing, clear legal accountability, transparent environmental reports, renewable-powered data centers, and strong human rights protections to make AI a tool for fair global progress.
