The 14th Dalai Lama received his physical Grammy Award at his official residence in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh.

The 90-year-old spiritual leader won the award for his spoken-word audiobook album titled *“Meditations: The Reflections of His Holiness the Dalai Lama”*.
This marked a historic milestone because he became the first person holding the paramount position in Tibetan Buddhism to win a Grammy Award.

The album originally won the accolade at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards held in Los Angeles.
Because the nonagenarian leader could not attend the event physically, musician Rufus Wainwright accepted the trophy on his behalf.
The actual presentation took place months later at the Dalai Lama’s residence, making it the first time he physically held the iconic gilded gramophone trophy.
Originally conceived in the 1950s during the Hollywood Walk of Fame project, the first Grammy Awards ceremony was held on May 4, 1959.

The project transposes complex Buddhist metaphysics into an accessible studio-produced spoken-word format.
Across 10 specialized tracks, it blends teachings on mindfulness, inner peace, and global connectivity with Indian classical music.

The track titled *“Water”* focuses on acute climate shifts, drawing from environmental changes observed in Tibet.
The track titled *“Peace”* describes loving-kindness and compassion as structural necessities for human survival.

Produced by multi-Grammy winner Kabir Sehgal, the project features international musical collaborations with high-profile contemporary artists including Andra Day, Maggie Rogers, Tony Succar, Ted Nash, Debi Nova, and Rufus Wainwright.
The album clinched the award in the Best Audio Book, Narration, and Storytelling Recording category.
